Emission-Line Filter Set
My narrowband emission line filter set was purchased with seed money from a Jumpstart grant from the ASU Graduate and Professional Student Association. Rather than producing custom-sized for each individual telescope camera, I use commercially-produced 2-inch astrophotography filters, mounted in 3D-printed filter wheel adaptors. In addition to being far more economical, this allows me to bring my filters to any telescope in Southern Arizona. My current set includes H-alpha, H-beta, and [OIII] filters, along with matching blue, green, and red continuum.
H-beta (top) and H-alpha (bottom) narrowband images of dwarf galaxies, before and after continuum subtraction. Continuum subtraction removes the starlight while leaving the nebular emission. These images were taken at the Bok 2.3 meter telescope on Kitt Peak, operated by Steward Observatory/University of Arizona.

3D-Printed Filter AdaptorsIn order to use the 2-inch filters on different telescopes around Southern Arizona, I had to create a set of filter adaptors matched to the filter wheel of each individual camera. These filters were 3D-printed at ASU, courtesy of Greg Wells and Prof. Cody Youngbull. The adaptors are made of low-outgassing, biodegradable poly-lactic acid (PLA).
